Miklos Spanyi, C.Ph.E. Bach, The solo keyboard music, vol. 10, BIS CD 1189

review in: Snijders Hifi, 30 oktober 2003

"Miklos Spanyi has chosen to perform the music on a magnificent clavichord built for him by Joris Potvlieghe. The instrument is an exact copy (down to the last ink stain!) of a clavichord by the famous instrument-builder Gottfried Horn of Dresden. The tone is particularly rich with a remarkably long reverberation."

“He [Miklós Spányi] uses a clavichord, built by the Belgian Joris Potvlieghe. One of the striking aspects of it is its powerful sound. He copied an instrument by Gottfried Joseph Horn, which is now in the Museum of Musical Instruments of Leipzig. In the booklet Spányi makes special reference to the ‘extremely long after-reverberation of the strings (produced by the undamped part of the strings between bridge and tuning pin), which beautifully fills the pauses when necessary and gives resonance to the typically thin texture.’”

Heard on this splendid instrument, it comes as a surprise to realize that these pieces have lain unplayed and ignored for so long.”

Review:

"(…) gespielt auf einem wunderbaren Clavichord, das von Joris Potvlieghe gebaut wurde. Es ist die genaue Kopie eines Instrument des berühmten Gottfried Joseph Horn aus Dresden. Ein reicher, voller Ton mit bemerkenswertem Nachklang zeichnet diese Kopie aus."
